Through my work you will notice a common theme of fawns. They symbolize a part of myself: their naivety, innocence, and curiosity. Acting as a vessel for my memories, reflecting my past yet leading towards my future. In the world I’ve created, once a fawn passes they begin the process towards self-actualization. They wander through this afterlife learning and growing from their past. The fawns are shaped by longing, memory, and the possibility of becoming whole once again.
Nature’s Everlasting Gates: Solace marks the beginning of this journey, a newly departed fawn standing at an intersection of worlds, caught in that still moment of fear, hope, and clarity. Unconditional Love reaches back in time, revealing the small, blue glow inside an exposed ribcage: the part of the self that loved too much, gave too freely, and was left to piece together what remained. It is the wound that begins the transformation.
I paint these scenes in deep blues, teals, and greens, colors that convey the nostalgia of memory. They create a dreamlike effect that makes an otherwise mundane sight feel otherworldly.
These works are not only about deer, they are about the fragile, glowing parts of myself that refused to disappear after loss. By following the fawns through their layered afterlife, I trace my own path toward healing, toward light, toward learning to love again without losing the softness that defines me.
